Good Update....Good news an' good news

I was gonna tell ya yesterday, but Robert kept say'n...."come on daddy, we got work to do". We got busy an' I plumb forgot to tell ya...

After our terrible golf game two days ago, Robert got on the phone an' call the back fix'n place I been do'n research on. After 20 minutes of back an' forth bla bla bla, I have me a appointment on the 26th with a doctor for a conference/consultation.....or what ever. ***the umpire has throwed the ball to the pitcher and the game begins****

Then, the old Billy Bob researches the doctor they picked out for me. What the hell, I told that nice lady I wanted to see a "surgeon" doctor, not a needle push'n doctor. I don't do needles.

I was all for call'n that nice lady back an' get an' appointment with a real doctor, but I let Robert talk me into "shut up Billy Bob" an' go with the flow.

Well poop, I had me a whole bunch of stuff I was gonna tell ya this morn'n bout that couch fix it project.....but guess what? Robert has put me to work.....manual labor....lift'n big ol' sacks of concrete....stuff like that. "Don't believe everthing the old Billy Bob tells ya.....he ain't do'n nuttin". Well, cut'n some foam rubber an' glue'n it together....maybe.

I sat on them new cushions last night. Man boy howdy, I feeled much better than the old ones. Couple weeks sit'n on my new couch, I won't have to go see the doctors. Yeeeee Haaaaw!!!! Just kidd'n.

Ok, Robert needs some supervision before he gets in too big a hurry an' don't think. That would mean another trip to Home Depot an' the foam rubber sell'n place. "No Robert, look what ya did".

Important afternoon update....

Couch project is completed. But....let me back up a bit...."ROBERT!!! See what I was tole you....THINK". But anyhows, the old Billy Bob could see from 30 feets away, it was wrong. Luckily the glue had not dried yet. He fixed that.

Then we installed the old ugly upholstery on the brand new foam cushions, pull 'er tight an' hog nose ringed that sucker back together. Job complete. Sit just like I was want'n.
Scratch that one off'n the "fix it" list. Hmmmm....only 13 to go.

  3. Now needles aren't so bad. Close your eyes if they bug you. There is just one owie then the numbing medicine begins to work and you don't feel anything.

    1. Don't you sit over there tell'n me that needles ain't so bad. They show one on TV an' I'm chang'n channels.

From what I've read, injections only "hide" the injury by killing the pain. I want the injury FIXED. But.........

    2. I know the needles don't always "fix" it. Here's how it works-- The medicine injected has a pain killer and a steroid in it. The pain killer relieves the pain till it wears out. Hopefully the steroid is causing a reduction in the swelling in the area which allows the nerves from the spinal cord to move more freely between the discs and bones, thus relieving the pain.

  5. OK BB, I know something about cutting foam. You see my wife signed us up for one of those adult ed night classes on how to upholster your house, well over a few years she did the house 2 cars and 1 boat. I learned how to cut foam. Get yourself one of those electric steak knifes and it will cut like butter.

    1. Ha River.....you way too late. It's finished. But I did put a edge on my favorite meat cut'n knife. Just like cut'n butter it went through that foam rubber.

Just in case MsB reads this, this knife was "modified" many years ago.

  6. I think I see were you are going with this. They want to try injecting cortisone first and see how that does before considering surgery. If so don't bother. Yes cortisone injections usually help for the first few days, maybe a month or two but the pain will likely come back.

  9. Hi, BB. My husband had back surgery. After the surgery, he did not get better. He was hurting so bad after about 3 weeks that I took him to the emergency room. The staff there assumed that he was a wimp & complaining about the normal after surgery stuff. They did an x-ray, said he was all right, and sent us home with pain killers that did nothing. He had a post-op scheduled with the surgeon 13 days after that ER visit. I called & told the doc's office to be sure & get a copy of the x-ray before we came in. There had been no let-up in his pain. Up and down his legs. He kept pushing himself because we'd been told the x-ray was all right. Well, guess what?? When the surgeon's office got a look at the x-rays, we got an immediate call. It seems, somehow he had a fractured disc. The surgeon was astounded that we'd been told he was all right and sent home. So an MRI was ordered. This happened late on a Friday. Within an hour I had a wheelchair for the old man. Up until that time he had refused. We had the MRI on Monday, another surgery on Wednesday morning. The surgeon could not explain what caused the injury??? after surgery, but did say that the bones were extremely soft. This is probably a side effect of steroid inhalers he's used for asthma for 20 years. The huge problem for us was that the paperwork sent to the surgeon from the ER stated that a problem had been found, and described how bad it was. But we had the dismissal paper they gave us----timed LATER than the doctor's!----that said he was all right. Still the Old Man did not get any relief from pain. The neurosurgeon---who had done previous surgeries on both of us---kept telling us that the pain would go away with time. But the weeks kept going by with no relief. So I took him to our Primary Care doc. He listened & had his office call & get us a next-day appointment with a pain specialist. Billy Bob, that pain doc is now Old Man's best friend. (After me, of course!) He received many injections along his back. For the first time in over 3 months, FINALLY, he had some relief. He continues to go back to this doc; has had several rounds of shots. Subsequent times the shots haven't lasted quite as long, but we were told he can have them as frequently as every 2 months if necessary. He made it 4 months this last time. We were there yesterday.

FYI----I made ALL KINDS OF NOISE to the hospital administration about the 13 days my husband was forcing himself to walk while he had a ruptured disc due to THEIR mistake. What we got was an apology and assurance that the ER doc who signed off would be reprimanded and watched! It seems the hospital can't be sued. It was a "mistake". Expensive in hurt. Who can say how much more the Old Man will suffer for the rest of his life BECAUSE he made himself keep going with the spine problem? He is 81 years old.

Something else. Before my husband had the surgery, he went to see his orthopedic surgeon who had repaired both rotator cuffs and a hip. That doc wanted to try shots before he had surgery. But Old Man didn't want shots. He wanted "FIXED"! He has wished many times that he'd gone for the shots!!!!

Just telling you this so you can think about it all. Do want you to have some peace from pain.
My guy got shots yesterday; pushed the lawnmower today! I told you earlier that we had to quit RVing, though. That would be overload.

    1. WOW!!! Is that encouragement or not???? My son has had 5 major ones! Without them, he wouldn't be walking now.

  10. BB,
Your Robert has accomplished more about getting your back fixed in 2-3 days than you have on 2-3 years. Leave the boy alone and let him do what he knows how to do. You just sit back and supervise his doing what you know how to do. That way you are both going to be happy.
