Dump'n tanks

Ok, I'm gonna try to start a blog post this morn'n. Ha, I bet ya a dollar this is gonna be a good'un. Ya see, again today I ain't got nuttin to write bout. Nuttin interesting that is.

First thing I gonna start with is....that dad gum black water tank. Remember a while back I was tell'n ya it had to be emptied? It's full. Arrangements were make with my wonderful grandson Nick to assist me in get'n "Sally da house" ready for the road. Son Robert will show up after he is finished with "honey do" stuff. Then we gonna all go up the road a piece to dump the tanks, fill up with gasoline an' top off the propane tank. Does Loves sell propane???

I warshed them damn dishes yesterday. Man boy howdy, there was more dirty dishes than I was think'n. They all put away now, but guess what, I already got more in the dish pan. Sheesh....a los'n battle with dishes at Billy Bob's house. I did tell ya that I throwed out my set of plates, right? I've had them suckers for close to 20 years....1996 from another live aboard sailor. I went paper plates bout 8 years ago....don't need no stink'n store bought plates. Ya gotta warsh 'em.

Went out to the "billy jeep". Just check'n to see if'n it would crank up after so long not used. Well shoot, it fire right up. Then the alarm goes off. The body computer system thingy says...."low on water". Well what the hell, where did my water go? Write it down on the "fix it" list. Now if you recall, there was a tiny leak on the thermostat housing an the thermostat was gonna be changed. Well it weren't. But that leak was like I just says....tiny. So where the hell all my water go? "Put it on the "fix it' list Billy Bob". Sheesh, I'm need some help here.

Ok, I'm gonna do a few things to get ready for the road. Loves is just up the highway bout 6 mile or so......bout 2 gallon gas round trip count'n idle time.

  1. You get 6 miles per gallon on Sally da House. That is pretty good. My class-C, pulling the Jeep only got from 4 to 8 depending on the circumstance and the hills. I have never checked the mileage on my diesel pusher. I would think it is about the same as yours. I will put it on my list of things to check.

    1. No Dizzy, on the road I get 8.2 to 8.6 mpg. The trip to the truck stop (bout 12 to 16 round trip) included traffic lights, moving "Sally" 3 times at truck stop, backing up an' repositioning for a perfect park'n spot (exactly in same position before trip) an' engine idle time.
It's hard to believe you only got 4 to 8 mpg with the class "C". I would think the diesel should get 8 to 12 mpg.

  2. There are a couple of blogs I follow where they have installed a composting toilet on their rig and they no longer have to mess with dumping their black water tank. Ever given any consideration to that?

Whatever the problem with Billy Jeep, at least you have your son to help you fix it.

    1. Funny you should mention that MsB. We were talk'n bout a composting toilet just a couple hours ago. Now, who is gonna get rid of the compost?
It takes me a long time (bout 2 1/2 months to fill the 42 gallon "black" water tank. I'm single....remember? An' Sadie Mae poops outside.

    1. As much as I hate to admit George, yes, I am get'n ready to settle in for a bit. But hopefully, my surgery will be real soon an' my recovery time is short. If'n that happens, I will leave Georgia before the "extreme" cold temps....bout Dec. some time. Still warm in south Texas in Dec. ya know.

    2. Yep Falcon Lake usually has a week of bitter cold down into the 40's. I hope to stop by that lake this year also. I heard from someone there are 14 pound bass waiting for someone to catch them down there.

  4. I would seriously look at the composting thing if I were you. Lot less trouble, I'd think.

Nice to get all the little stuff out of the way, though. I think that dirty dishes multiply at night!

    1. Here is a good blog post about part of the reality of a "composting" toilet in an RV. http://www.thegoodluckduck.com/2012/10/composting-toilets-for-rvs-and-simple.html

    2. From what I have read about composting toilets they have their advantages but the price of one and less trouble are not among them. If you do not run a heater 24/7 to evaporate the urine you still have a tank to dump. The compost must also be dumped, just not as often.
There is also the gray water that must be disposed of. Sometimes that can be discharged directly to the ground but there are many other times when it needs to be held in the tank and then that tank dumped. I don't find that dumping both tanks every couple of weeks is all that much trouble.
