Depression 101

Poor old Billy Bob.....what we gonna do with that boy? Is it just me, or do other folks have days like this? You know, think'n in the wrong direction, mak'n choices what don't make sense, and just plain stupit decisions. Well shoot, I do that stuff every day, git up the next day and do it all over again. Never learn a dad blamed thing.

Ok, here I go 'splain'n stuff again. For bout the umpteenth time. All them suggested vitimins, minerals, witches brews, home remedies an' all that stuff ain't gonna stop me from get'n leg cramps. I've tried them all. Ya see, I've done injured my back so many times I can't remember. The last injury was a doozie....3 squished discs an' a tore tendon ....or something like that. It never healed in 12 years. Any over exertion of my lower back (swak'n gold balls or dig'n dirt) and I pay dearly for it. Excruciating mind blow'n pain and leg cramps at night. A hip what never quits hurt'n.
"That's all I have to say bout that"....Gump.

Here's the deal for today. It's cold, gonna rain, ain't no sunshine...a very dreary day. Last night I had me one the worstest nights I have in a long time. Not leg cramps if'n that what ya think'n. "Mind" cramps. I jist ain't a happy camper no more. The excitement is slap gone. Think'n bout what I gonna do when I get to where I gonna go depresses the hell out me. Been like for quite some time ya know. It weren't like that when I was just a young pup.....go somewheres an' make a adventure out of it. One my favorite say'ns was "life without adventure is just an experience". Well, I'm experienc'n life."Somebody call 911, Billy Bob needs a pill".

Since I'm a "fix it" kind of guy, this old computer ain't gonna get the best of me. It hurts me when I cain't fix something. If'n I knowed how to take this thing apart, there would be computer pieces lay'n everwheres. It's just as easy to throw a bunch of pieces in the dumpster as it is the whole thing. The thing with Billy Bob is....ya gotta give it a try first. Ok, where the hell is my PHD on computer wizardry?

Now the weather folks is say'n it's gonna rain tomorrow as well as today. Along with some strong winds tomorrow. I ain't even close to pick'n up all my "fix it" an' project stuff what's lay'n out there on "da porch". Still got a Walmart run to make. Pick up my meds. Put stuff all that stuff I took apart back together. Nope, Billy Bob ain't even close. Although, if'n I was to GOYA, I could pull out of here this afternoon. Texas bound....yeah.

  1. I know how you feel Billy Bob,I have problems getting excited about going somewhere or doing something. I just came back from the ranch and at times wishing I was home when I was out there, now that I'm home I'm wishing I was back at the ranch. I just can't get excited about doing anything any more or content on just doing nothing,I guess it just boils down to,I'm just not that damn happy any more for some damn reason.
Maybe we need to go out to that Chili Cook Off in Terlingua next month and hang out with some of them young drunk women for a while. They will either heal us or kill us.

  2. Billy Bob, Okay, to cheer you up I found this video that really made me think of you - and what your next project can be! When I saw this I laughed out loud and thought "I could see BB doing that" ! Okay, it's called 'redneck RV' and I'm not sayin' yer a redneck, that's what this thing is named, ain't my fault. Here is the link but I spelled out some stuff so the comment wouldn't get deleted or something. This isn't spam, it's from me, Jool and I am one of your faithful readers. http://www(dot)youtube(dot)com/watch?v=Ltz0MGlzbaI

  4. Not witches brew but water. In trying not to wake up several times during my "beauty sleep" to go to the bathroom, I cut down on water drinking after 6pm. About a week later the leg cramps at night almost did me in. Think I was dehydrated. Started up my water drinking again and after a few days the painful cramps were gone. Of course, the bathroom strolls still interrupt my sleep but unless I stub my toe on the way, it sure is less painful than the screaming leg cramps!

    Regards from Florida,
    Nina

  8. Depression seems to hit a lot of people in their older years...There are some over the counter things that help mood they say...St. John's wort...SAM-E is another...but you have to watch for interactions with what you are already taking. LIght "therapy"...you can get special bulbs that mimic a certain spectrum of light that help mood. They plug into a regular lamp fixture. Now that the days are getting shorter, gray days can really plummet a person's mood if they are sensitive to the season's changes. Our rig can be very dark on cloudy days, I have to make sure all the blinds are wide open to let as much light in as possible. There's that Seasonal Affective Disorder--SAD...that people get when winter comes. I wouldn't think that would be the case down in Texas, though! But you might be someone who is affected by that. I'll bet your mood lifts in a day or two.....it's when it stays that way for long periods of time, weeks, months, that you gotta think about seeing the doctor...Depression isn't something that you can just "snap out of", that's for sure! Keep up the exercise on the bike, and the golf ball swakn' ---that really helps. Best wishes, "Sparky"

  9. Well, I'll tell ya. If we hadn't lived for a year in Puerto Rico back about a decade ago, I just mighta done myself in.
To me, the "light therapy" was something that helped me turn the corner. There were days before then that I was lower than low. Trying to figure out ways of doing myself in without leaving a mess.
So Billy Bob, get yourself to the sun. I'm not kidding.
It'll seem like a chore to do it at first, but once you're some place where it's sunny, you'll start to feel better. I believe this.

    1. I'm not so sure that lack of sun is BB's depression problem. Deming, NM is not known for its dark days with 288 days per year that are rated as sunny by the Weather Service.

  11. I retired July 1st and was "happy" traveling all over for the summer. Now that I'm home again (a stone's throw from you in Las Cruces) I find that I have to "schedule" things to keep me going. I also think that autumn makes me a little sad. The days grow colder and shorter, etc...

  12. I am with Jim on this...go to the Chili Cook-Off in Terlingua...looking at all the young topless co-ed's from Sul Ross will do you good.

The over 50 plus male crowd in our camp and the younger ones as well look forward to this event all year. The co-ed's too get a kick out of making them salivate....jajajajaja :D

P.S. The cops tend to look the other way at night when the girls get naked and sit around a campfire...ofcourse if it is not too cold, lol.
