A "friend" day

What could make for a better day than to spend it with a friend? So freak'n what if'n ya cain't hit a golf ball worth a crap, or ya stand on the bank of a pond swing'n at a golf ball lay'n in the mud, or ya hit a 30 yard shot with a 120 yard "backhoe" 8 iron? Note....a "backhoe" 8 iron is a device used in golf to dig a 6 inch pre contact hole in the ground behind the ball you intend to hit 120 yards. That was bout the size of it....two old folks play'n the #2 sport in America. Spend'n a day with a friend is worth it all.

Yesterday was a satisfy'n an' excit'n day for the old Billy Bob. I don't get many of them no more ya know. Me an' OFM Barney had us a so so, regular (for us), kind  of golf ball swak'n day. There were no spectacular shots made for the duration of the first 14 holes. The remain'n holes, we throwed the score card plumb in the dumpster an' just swaked balls over, under, around an' through a forest of trees....that kind of stuff. We laughed an' gave pointers to each other on "how to hit a golf ball 101" an' what would improve our game. What was totally useless advice, given the fact that at our age, no amount of "pointers" is gonna help. All in all, I would say we suck.

It was "fish an' shrimp Friday" at the "greasy churn" in Sinton. Me an' Barney showed up in anticipation to fill our gullets full of delectable gulf shrimp and golden brown fish fillets fried to perfection. Well, you can just forget bout all that Billy Bob an' Barney. Them shrimps come out some muddy bayou just north of New Orleans. An' them delectable fish fillets, they was farm raised Chinese dog fish, or something like that. No not dawgs....sheesh. A dog fish is a real fish. Ya just don't eat 'em. But that what we eat at the "greasy churn".

I build me up a big ol' salad with heap'n spoon fulls of blue cheese dress'n. Yum yum, I likes my salads. Barney, he heads for the shrimp bar. Plate fulls of scrumptious food graces our table. Well, it weren't really scrumptious, but we put a hurt'ns on it anyhows. Rounded out our meal with heaps of "brain freeze" chocolate ice cream. Damn that hurts.

Bellys full, we prop our feet up and enjoyed talk'n bout all that ails us, travels and of course, more "golf'n pointers". A priceless end to a perfect day.

Did I get me some leg cramps last night? Nope, not a one. But I was still up wide eyed at 3:30am. Sit'n there on the couch stare'n out into the darkness at nuttin. It were that damn caffeine I betcha a dollar. Ya see, I like my coffee. Brewed me up a pot last night an' was still sip'n on it at midnight....bout my bed time. Strong coffee is my first choice of drink over "sodie pop", fruit juice or water. Morn'n, noon or night, I drink coffee. Some people drink coffee black. For me, that's some the most god awful tast'n stuff I ever did drink. Bout like the turpentine we drinked on the farm for a cold when I was a kid. I got to have my Coffee Mate an' a bunch of sugar in mine.

Ok, got to fix me up a cup, lay back an' maybe take me a nap.

Oh wait!!! Did I piss somebody off? I'm miss'n some my favorite people.

  1. I always did think friendship was much better than competition, although a little friendly competition can be ok. Glad you have a great day, ate a good meal, and didn't have leg cramps last night!

  3. Check out this statement "ya stand on the bank of a pond swing'n at a golf ball lay'n in the mud" That dang BB pulled off about as amazing a shot as ever been played in the history of golf. Ball about two feet below him, in about an inch of water settled into the mud a bit. He had to get the ball up over the bank really fast but yet get it to stop at the green that was only a few feet away. HE DID IT IN GREAT FASHION. It was a shot that needed to be filmed to show it over and over on television as a great How to do it lesson. It was a great day!
