Blood pressure on the rise

I won't be writ'n no dad gum stories today.

I need this for a record......
Oh boy, last night was a "skeer hell out me" night. I ate me up some supper (salmon patties an' fried taters), took my pills, drinked some milk....damn, I don't feel so good. I straps on my blood pressure checker thingy an' "Oh shit, 169/89". I wait a bit....151/85. A bit later....165/92. Then I got to think'n bout what Dr. Frokerinsteen told me...."I hope to see you again next year". What's the number for 911???

I went an' lay down in the bed. Damn, I don't feel worth a poop. 170/83 at 2am. I ain't dizzy or nuttin like that, but I got this funny feel'n all over my body....tingly feel'n. I got to think'n back to how I feeled when I had my heart attacks. This is something like that.....but with no pains. I sit on the couch till 5:30am....this ain't right. I takes me a Alka Seltzer.....100mg aspirin in it.  Maybe I need a nap. Three hours later I gets up....caffeine is needed.  It's now 11am with a slight little change.....145/79. Heart rate, 80-85, was my normal on all readings. I normally run 130/70-75/80....or there bouts.

Now I got to think'n bout the time Dr. Fronk put me on a pill. My blood pressure went to something like 200/100....damn I cain't remember. Took the whole weekend for it to come back down. Could this be from the Lipitor I was just prescribed? Could it be from the salmon an' milk? Could it be from the anticipation of tomorrows stress test? Anyhows, I feel Ok right now.
Record complete.....

Been rather nice here in Georgia. Lows in the mid to low 60's at night an' perfect low to mid 80's day time. Bout a 10 deg change in day temps from a couple weeks ago. I could live with this kind of weather the whole upcom'n winter. God I hate winter. Be cool though if'n I had me a snowman.

Ha No, BB, it would be brrr shivering cold to have one of them. Best to satisfy your desire with a picture of a snowman. Getting cold here already too. I hate it.

Hmm, no wonder I'm always feeling lousy. My BP stays in those high numbers you posted...and these days I'm gasping for breath like a fish out of water. Ain't going to be long, brother; not long atall.

    1. Sorry to hear of your high BP read'ns. When mine gets up there I begin to worry just a tad....like bout a ton. "Ain't gonna be too long" ain't what I like to hear.
Good luck. Hope to still see ya around for the next ten or so years.

  2. As I recall a snowman is an 8 on a golf scorecard.

  3. I hope you can get that blood pressure down to a more normal reading - BP that high can lead to a stroke. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the Lipitor has something to do with it, although you'll never get the doctor who prescribed it to admit it. I know what I would do, but no one can tell you what you should do - except to say you need to talk to a doctor about it soon.

    1. I researched Lipitor an' find nowhere's that it can cause high BP. So I check that off'n the list.
Salmon an' milk....check that off'n the list.
I just checked my pressures again (1:35)....143/78.....hot damn, that's great. But I'll check again an' again.

    2. I always check a prescription drug on a website that has ratings and experiences provided by patients who used or are using them, not the drug mfrs. or the medical community. I looked at it and found shoulder pain, brain fog, leg & foot cramps, and problems with balance being the top complaints about Lipitor, but no blood pressure problems. The trouble is that people within 5 or 10 yrs of our age attribute these symtoms to getting older and don't even think about the drugs we take. I had severe shoulder pain and quit taking Lipitor; the pain went away and never came back.

  5. A dentist saved my life. How's that you may ask? He had just bought a sphygmomanometer to take home and wanted to try it out on someone. I was the lucky winner. He took it and it was 220 over 120. Immediately called the doctor and he called in a prescription and said pick it up now and immediately take a pill. I have been on BP medicine for years now. Get that BP of yours down, you hear?

  6. I always get that kind of reading the first time. Mine was so high once the fireman who took it was afraid to let me go home. But today my first reading was 130/80 and the nurse gave me a high five it made her so happy. Just wish I knew why it was so good so I could repeat it.

I think we have a winner! Hold your cards until it is verified.

  8. The new "ok" is 150/90. So yours looked ok to me. I told my doc that, and she said she had just read that, too. this was when we were cutting down diuretics. Mine now is usually like, 130s/80s.

  9. This is off topic but I often hear you mention you take aspirin or products that contain aspirin (alka-seltzer). I thought you were taking Plavix. The doctor has told mother never to take aspirin as long as she is on Plavix.

    1. MsBelinda,
Your mother's doctor could very well be right.

Ray Sahelian, M.D. obtained a Bachelors of Science degree in nutrition from Drexel University and completed his doctoral training at Thomas Jefferson Medical School, both in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is a popular and respected physician and medical writer that is internationally recognized as a moderate voice in the evaluation of natural supplements. He has this to say:

"Cardiologists are re-evaluating how they prescribe Plavix, a popular heart medication used to prevent blood clots, after a major clinical study found the drug may cause dangerous bleeding in patients who take it along with aspirin to ward off a first heart attack. Some people taking this blood thinner on top of aspirin to try to prevent heart attacks, as many doctors recommend, now have good reason to stop. The Plavix and aspirin combination not only didn’t help most people, but it unexpectedly almost doubled the risk of death, heart attack or stroke for those with no clogged arteries but with worrisome conditions like high blood pressure and high cholesterol."

However, in the case of BB I would guess that his doctor has prescribed the Plavix and has no idea that BB is taking aspirin - sometimes a lot of aspirin. You know that BB is a fix'n kind of fellow; if something is wrong he is going to fix it!
