Last leg

Camp'n at the Whip-in RV Park
Big Spring, Texas

Well, today is the last leg of my adventurous journey to destination #1, Brownwood, Texas. I say adventurous 'cause of the episode with the local law enforcement officials in Van Horn yesterday morning.

I posted a travel warning on some of the RV groups and forums I belong to regarding my $85 fine for "camp'n" (pull in beside a big ol' 18 wheeler, turn out the lights and take a nap) in a truck stop. A few have contacted Van Horn officials in protest to the deeds they did to old Billy Bob. What good it will do I don't know, but maybe, just maybe, I can beat this thing. It's not the fine, but the way they did it. A freak'n truck stop allows RV overnight parking.

Look like I only got a couple hunnert mile to travel today before plant'n roots for a few days. But now I have got to decide where I gonna camp. The RV park or the State Park. What I'm think'n here....while sip'n a cup, is to pay a week rent at the RV park and drive "that jeep" up to the lake and State Park. It all gonna depend on the weather. I know it ain't gonna rain and I know it ain't gonna get no cooler, so what the hell do I do?

Ya all know that I'm look'n for a new homebase for "Sally da house", so I gonna spend at least a week in Brownwood look'n the place over. And then, ya know I got that "bubba boat" what ain't been in water yet. And there's a big ol' lake right there. Details at a later date.

Ok, they gonna kick me out of here in less than an hour and I ain't ready. It's already hot out there....boy howdy. Rekon I'll see ya down the road.

In answer to Dizzy's question why I am on I-20. Ya see, it's like this, I have never gone through Texas backards. My first destination stop is Brownwood, and guess what, that's right off of I-20 by a few mile. I will be down in Barneys country in bout a month after a few lakes in between. Lake Brownwood, Inks Lake, Lake Summerville and a golf course in Katy, Texas (visit daughter and grandkids). Who knows, long time since I been in Galveston.

Come back, ya hear?

3:15pm.... Early, Texas at Harlowe's RV Park

And this is Brownwood, Texas, right smack dab in the Texas Hill country. OK, where the hell are the hills?? This is my first let down.....there ain't no freak'n hills. Right down the road is Early, Texas, with nothing but a sign post dividing the two towns. Not at all impressed. That would be let down #2.

Now for the temperature. Holy jump'n Jesus, it's a swelter'n 112 degs out there ...according to my brand spank'n new temperature thingy. According to WunderMap, it's 107 degs with 30% humidity. Go figger!!

Why the hell don't my Verizon card work in Brownwood? Here I am steal'n a signal for some motel close by....OH, there it is right across the street. Probably get a ticket for steal'n wifi....be my luck.

Speak'n of ticket....I tried to email the City of Van Horn. Guess what? You can only send them an email if you are logged into their system....or something like that. Look'n like I may be send'n 46.95 pounds of pennies to Van Horn.

Ok, gotta rest and cool off

  1. You be carefull with that boat, your skinny knees might punch a hole in it. . . of course in this drought there may not be enough water anywhere in Texas to float it.

  2. Ur ticket by THAT stupid cop, reminds me of the one a couple of months ago, in Cedar Park, where a 10 year old kid got one for not sitting correctly in the front seat, and when told to put his signature on the bottom line, told the cop, I'm 10, i don't have a signature. lol, If i knew how to email the city of Van Horn i sure would too. I will check into it, see if i can find out about city of Van Horn.

  3. Sure am glad you rilled up the natives about that stupid parking ticket. someone needs to take this issue on as a project to get this stopped.

I am really looking forward to your grand tour of the Texas lakes, looking for a new place to call home in the summer time. We all know you live at the Slabs in the winter.

  4. Brownwood in the Texas Hill Country is a new one on me! Brownwood is listed as in the Panhandle Plains in the Texas State Travel Guide handed out by the TexDOT. WWW.TRAVELTEX.COM to get your own copy. A lot of tourist bureaus have them also. They are free.
